The race is on!

This shot was from my most recent trip to Death Valley in September ‘09. Ever since I left Death Valley the first time, I wanted to go back to get a star trail shot at the Racetrack since I missed out the first time I was there. I absolutely love this place. It was so peaceful to lay by the rocks–that move by themselves–and watch the stars race across the sky. A mysterious and wonderful place indeed.

Finished up another Yosemite pano. This one is a composite of 33 shots. 1 by 11 portrait mode shots, each of which is a 3 exposure blend.

Yosemite

Just wanted to share some recent edits from my first trip to Yosemite back in summer ‘08.

This first shot was taken at one of the first stops we made. This is a view of Half Dome from Glacier Point.

Next stop was Yosemite Valley. This is a view of Yosemite Falls.

On our way out, we saw this guy from the side of the road. Didn’t seem to mind us watching.

One goal I made before going to Yosemite, was to get a dramatic shot from Tunnel View. It started to cloud up and rain, so I thought I might be out of luck, but we decided to make our way back to Tunnel view anyway. This was the result:

Finally, a star trail shot looking over Merced River and the valley with a silhouette of El Capitan.

Couple more panos

Finally had the time to sit down and merge 45+ pictures into 15+ HDR frames and then into one panoramic image. Here is what I came up with:

First up - Downtown LA as viewed from Griffith Observatory. I once heard that watching the glimmering lights of LA is like watching yourself dream from a distance. All I know is that I could’ve stayed up there all night just watching. What a sight.

Next up - Grand Canyon sunrise. This one was taken just after sunrise from the south rim. The photo really does no justice to the sheer enormity and magnificence that is the Grand Canyon. Definitely one of the coolest places to watch a sunrise.

I still have over 2,000 pictures to sort through and edit from last year including Sequoia and Yosemite national parks, so stay tuned for more and let me know what you think!

Winter play

It has been waaay too long since my last update. Sorry for that. Over the holidays I took my Uncle’s two husky dogs out for a little romp in the snow. Here is Flurry resting after some intense wrestling with her buddy Sierra.

Death Valley

From bats flying in my car to flat tires out on the road, I think it’s safe to say I had an exciting and eventful weekend at Death Valley! Here are a couple keepers from the experience:

Sand Dunes: ~98 degrees fahrenheit at about 6:00 P.M.

Racetrack Playa Sunrise

Badwater Saltflat: 101+ degrees fahrenheit
